If you have activated call waiting and someone calls you while you are busy with another phone conversation, a call waiting signal will sound on your phone. You can decide whether to put the ongoing call on hold and answer the new call, or continue your current conversation without starting a new call. The call waiting signal is only audible to you, not to your conversation partner.
Until you decide whether to answer or reject the call, the new caller hears a ringing tone on their phone. If you refuse to answer the new call, the ringing tone stops and the caller hears the message: "The mobile phone you are calling is currently busy. Please wait or call again in a moment." (Normally, the caller would hear a busy tone in this situation).
